As I mentioned in my previous post, I wish to share the information on the singing bowl that was shared by the Monk, Wangchuck. Apart from the conversation, I also did some research on the internet to get information about the singing bowl. Therefore in this post, I would be sharing about the singing bowl and its healing capabilities.

Tibetan Singing Bowls is first used as a storage device and then it was most popular with the Buddhist monks. It was used as a begging bowl by the monks. Even the Siddhartha Gautama Buddha used Singing Bowl as a begging bowl. Later on, the usage of the Singing Bowl varied due to its nature. The usages comprise of mainly in meditation and healing approaches.

Singing Bowl as for Sound Therapy

Singing Bowl, when stricken with the mallet at the edge of the singing bowl, it produces gentle sound. It is believed that this sounds promotes healing from stress disorders, pain, and depression, etc. It generally follows principles of Sound therapy.

According to this approach, illness is just a manifestation of disharmony within the body. It is the state in which the cells present in our body is vibrating inharmoniously. In the body, when a person experience hindrance to the flow of energy in the body, the organs or cells stops vibrating at a healthy frequency. Then that person experiences disease.

This approach agrees that the sound produced by singing bowls restores and optimize the flow of the energy in the different part of the body. Therefore, it is said that to harmonize the body, the person should listen to the sound of a singing bowl. But this listening has the procedure to be followed.

As I searched the internet, there is mentioned that modern medicine has recognized sound healing as a therapeutic field. Sound Healing Network founded in 2002 also shares that healing occurs through the effect of the appropriate application of intentional sound since we are vibrational beings.

While searching the sites, I stumble upon some of the healers who use the singing bowl as a tool for sound therapy and clients' stories after healing therapy. The healers have shared that the sound has really impacted the clients to relieve the stress. One of the sound healers is Diane Mandle. She is a certified sound healer who works in California. She has been using singing bowls as a tool to produce harmonic sound for the clients. Basically, she has been playing singing bowl to relieve their pain and stress. She shared that the sound has been helping her clients to ease out their pain and to restore.

An individual after a singing bowl concert reported that his pulse rate has dropped from 80 to 68. Another individual, Michael Verilli who is an osteopathic physician from Northampton, Massachusetts shares that his stress and anxiety have disappeared completely after attaining the session of sound therapy using a singing bowl. He further states that he had experienced a true deep inner healing.

Even the scientists and doctors have been researching about sound produced from the singing bowls. Dr. David Simon, a medical director of the Deepak Chopra Center in California have an intense interest in the sound produced from the singing bowl. He has found that the sound produced from singing bowls are chemically metabolized into endogenous opiates and these substances act as internal painkillers on the body.

Dr. Mitchell Gaynor is director of medical oncology and integrative medicine at the Strang-Cornell Prevention Center in New York. He was introduced to singing bowls by a Tibetan monk patient. With the motive to relieve the stress and shock of diagnosis and to soothe the pain associated with chemotherapy and other treatments, Dr. Gaynor began to use the singing bowls and other sound therapies to help his cancer patients. After an extensive research, he found that the sound that we hear can actually change our immune system. He further explains that the therapeutic sound affects our bodies on a cellular and sub-cellular level that means there is not an organ system in our body that is not affected by sound, music, and vibration. Therefore he concludes that sound can help people who are sick, especially cancer patients.

After collecting all these information I was more confident in the healing capabilities of the singing bowl. Hence I believed that sound has the capacity to build up our immune system. It will be better if we have a singing bowl with us and learn some healing techniques then we can definitely build up the immune system. We can also help to other people who are suffering from pain and stress since it is scientifically proven that these sound have healing capabilities.
